Founded in 1926 the Colegio Academico boasts a rich history. It began its journey in a different location. The original school was situated on Rua Nova do Almada. It offered primary instruction secondary courses and language classes. Father Avelino Simoes de Figueiredo and Captain Joao Pedro da Silva founded this institution.
A year later in 1928 the Colegio Academico found a new home. It moved to the vibrant Praca D Pedro IV also known as Rossio. Its new address was Rua dos Correeiros 327. Here it became a co-educational institute. It offered both day and night classes.
Its current location on Avenida da Republica is a testament to its enduring legacy. The building itself is architecturally significant. Its neo-Romanesque style blends with eclectic elements. The building features a dynamic array of windows. These windows showcase a variety of styles including round arches and curved lintels.
