In 1959, a seed was planted in Quito. This seed was the Academia Cotopaxi. It began as a small school in the Ecuadorian-American Center on Avenida 6 de Diciembre. The Colegio Academia Cotopaxi wasn’t always the sprawling campus it is today. Its early days saw students learning through a combination of the Calvert Correspondence System and University of Nebraska courses. Soon, the school moved to a house on the corner of Avenida de Los Estadios and República de El Salvador. Colegio Academia Cotopaxi has always been an international school. It serves a diverse student body, including children of diplomats and employees of international corporations. Local Ecuadorian families also choose Academia Cotopaxi for their children’s education. In 1981, Academia Cotopaxi achieved a significant milestone. It became the first school in Ecuador to offer the International Baccalaureate diploma. This cemented its place as a leader in international education. The school has also embraced the IB Primary Years Program. In addition, it established the ONE Institute language center and the IMAGINE preschool. These programs show the school’s commitment to providing comprehensive education. Colegio Academia Cotopaxi now boasts over 650 students. They represent over 40 nationalities, creating a vibrant, global community. From its humble beginnings, Colegio Academia Cotopaxi has grown into a renowned institution. It continues to provide a high-quality international education to students from around the world.
