The Clos Nollet is more than just a street. It is a reminder of a bygone era, a time when grand estates dotted the Parisian landscape. Stand here, and you can almost hear the echoes of carriages rolling through, the laughter of children playing in the gardens of Mont-Courcel, an aristocratic property that once stood on this very spot.

In the 19th century, this land belonged to the Chodron de Courcel family, influential landowners who owned a significant part of the Athis-Mons area. Mont-Courcel was a haven of greenery and elegance, a testament to their wealth and stature. The name ‘Clos’ itself hints at the property’s exclusivity, denoting a walled or moated aristocratic domain.

But times changed. The rise of the automobile and the expansion of Paris transformed the landscape. The airport at Orly, built after World War II, claimed a part of the surrounding land, while a suburban housing development, called ‘Citée de l’Air’, sprang up behind Mont-Courcel.

The grand estate itself, however, met a different fate. In the 1970s, Mont-Courcel was demolished to make way for the modern residential developments that we see today. The Clos Nollet, Brtigny, and Perrault neighborhoods are all built on what was once the heart of this aristocratic property.

Today, a single cedar tree, a majestic survivor, stands as a silent testament to Mont-Courcel’s former grandeur. It is a reminder that even the most opulent estates can be swept away by the sands of time, leaving only whispers and echoes of their past.
