Here, among the blend of Bondy and Villemomble, stands the Cité de la Sablière. It is more than just buildings. It is a testament to urban evolution. Let’s step back in time to understand the story.

The Cité de la Sablière first emerged in 1962. It was built to address the pressing need for social housing. The complex originally featured 376 social housing units. These units included various sizes. There were 279 T3 apartments, 53 T4 apartments and 44 T5 apartments. Five commercial spaces were also incorporated. The buildings were spread across four structures. Three of these buildings stood ten stories tall. One was a smaller four-story building.

For years, the Cité de la Sablière provided essential housing. It also provided community spaces for countless families. It offered secure access for residents. Green spaces and play areas were also available. However, time takes its toll. By 2018, a new chapter was on the horizon.

The city announced a major urban renewal project. The goal was to revitalize the Cité de la Sablière. The plan included demolishing three of the ten-story buildings. These buildings were considered outdated. The demolition would affect 346 homes. In their place, new five-story buildings would arise. Plans also included pedestrian walkways and expanded green spaces. Only one four-story building was to be saved. It contained 30 homes. The entire project was expected to last until 2030.

Building D at 156-168 Route de Villemomble shows the changes. It was the longest building. It had a chimney on its south side. Building D was set to be demolished as part of the renewal. The ICF Habitat La Sablière was a partner. They managed the HLM complex.

The renewal aimed to transform the Cité de la Sablière into a more modern. The renewal would create a better living environment. The vision included reducing social housing to 25%. The goal was to promote social diversity. The project also aimed to improve parking. Underground parking was planned. This addressed a long-standing issue for residents. A medical center was planned to provide local healthcare.

As the Cité de la Sablière moves forward, some residents will relocate. All residents will be rehoused. They will be placed in suitable accommodations. The Cité de la Sablière renewal will continue for years. It seeks to blend history with modern living. It aims to create a thriving community for all. The Cité de la Sablière stands as a beacon of change in Bondy.
