“Can you believe it?” I asked. “This cemetery opened almost two centuries ago!” Welcome to the Cimetière de Boissy-Saint-Léger. This is the final resting place for many notable figures. It’s also a testament to the rich history of Boissy-Saint-Léger.

The Cimetière de Boissy-Saint-Léger first opened its gates in 1825. It stands near the Domaine de Grosbois. Grosbois once belonged to Barras. Later, it was owned by Marshal Berthier and his descendants.

Among the notable burials are striking family chapels. See the chapels of the Berthier and Murat families. The widow of Marshal Berthier and her descendants rest here. A large enclosure holds the impressive tomb of the Hottinguer family. They were Swiss barons and bankers since Napoleon III. The Hottinguers also owned a château in this commune.

Henri Hottinguer rests here. He lived from 1868 to 1943. He was a banker and regent of the Banque de France. Rodolphe Hottinguer is also buried here. He lived from 1835 to 1920. He too was a banker and regent of the Banque de France.

Another notable figure is Jean-Léon-Victor Revillon. He lived from 1843 to 1929. He belonged to the family of furriers. Their family chapel is here. Michel Verstraete is also interred here. He lived from 1918 to 1968 and was a Companion of the Liberation.

Several tombs are listed in the inventory. These include the tomb of the Amédée Lacarrière family. Also listed are the Lacarrière sepulcher and the Lacarrière-Lafaye tomb. You can also find the sepulcher of the Hottinguer family here.

The Cimetière de Boissy-Saint-Léger is open daily. The opening hours are from 9 am to 5:30 pm. The cemetery operates under the regulations established by the mayor. This is according to decree N°2010/32. It governs the administration of the Cimetière de Boissy-Saint-Léger.
