CIESPAL the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicacion para America Latina was born from a UNESCO initiative. A tripartite agreement between the Ecuadorian government UNESCO and the Universidad Central del Ecuador solidified its foundation. Its first director Jorge Fernandez a writer journalist and diplomat shaped its early years. Since 2018 Gissela Davila Cobo the first woman to hold the position leads CIESPAL.
