Could a modest house in Pasay become a beacon of faith spanning the globe? This is the story of the Church of God, also known as the Members Church of God International (MCGI). Right here, in this unassuming corner of Pasay, a global movement took root. The Church of God’s journey began not in grandeur, but in the fervent belief of a small group of Christians.

The Church of God traces its origins back to the Iglesia ng Dios kay Cristo Jesus, Haligi at Suhay ng Katotohanan, led by Nicolas Antiporda Perez. After Perez’s death in 1975, Eli Soriano emerged as a key figure, leading a group of members who believed the original church’s teachings had strayed. This pivotal moment led to the establishment of the Mga Kaanib sa Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo Hesus Haligi at Saligan ng Katotohanan, later evolving into the Members Church of God International. This seemingly local event, right here in the Philippines, had global implications as the Church of God embarked on a remarkable journey of expansion.

Soriano’s leadership of the Church of God propelled its growth, both within the Philippines and internationally. Starting with local radio broadcasts in the 1980s, the Church of God’s message, through the program Ang Dating Daan, quickly reached a national audience, captivating listeners with its live question-and-answer format. This innovative approach, utilizing the power of media, marked a significant shift in religious outreach. By 2004, the Church of God had adopted its current name, reflecting its expanding global presence. The same year, it leveraged satellite technology to broadcast “The Old Path” in North America, marking the Church of God’s entry onto the international stage.

Today, the Church of God is a truly international organization, with coordinating centers in various countries and territories. Its message continues to reach millions through Ang Dating Daan and its translated counterparts, “The Old Path,” “El Camino Antiguo,” and “O Caminho Antigo.” The Church of God is also known for its commitment to charitable works, reflecting its belief in practical Christianity. From its humble beginnings here in Pasay, the Church of God has become a testament to the power of faith and the potential for global reach. The Church of God’s use of technology and media, its focus on biblical teachings, and its commitment to helping those in need have all contributed to its unique and enduring impact.
