Is it possible for healing to be a science? Here in front of the Church of Christ Scientist, that question is taken very seriously. The Church of Christ Scientist, a branch of the Christian Science movement, might surprise you. It doesn’t quite fit the mold of traditional churches. Here, the Bible shares center stage with another book, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy. This text, along with the Bible, are considered the church’s pastors. Founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy, this church emphasizes the power of God for healing. Eddy believed that true healing was a science rooted in spiritual understanding. While traditional medicine has its place, Christian Scientists believe that prayer, coupled with a deep understanding of God’s love, can heal physical and mental ailments. This belief stems from their understanding of Jesus’s teachings and his healing ministry. Inside the Church of Christ Scientist, you won’t find a pastor in the traditional sense. Instead, Sunday services focus on readings from the Bible and Eddy’s book. These readings, called “Lesson Sermons”, delve into themes of spiritual healing and explore the nature of God. The Church of Christ Scientist offers a different perspective on faith and healing. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the search for answers leads us down unconventional paths.
