Hidden on the shores of Bagsværd Lake, Christianelyst whispers tales of romance and history. Christianelyst isn’t just a grand Neoclassical house. It’s a love letter etched in brick and mortar. Built in 1803, Christianelyst owes its name to Christiane Louise Frederikke Buch, wife of the wealthy Carl Ludwig Drewsen. He gifted her this lakeside haven, a testament to their blossoming love. The house itself is a study in elegance. A main wing and two side wings embrace a courtyard, open to the north, creating an intimate space. The garden, stretching south towards the lake, invites quiet contemplation. Imagine Christiane strolling through the gardens, the gentle lapping of the lake against the shore providing a soothing soundtrack. Christianelyst has witnessed history unfold. It was once part of the Frederiksdal estate, a collection of country houses known as Ny Frederiksdal, or New Frederiksdal. The house even had a brief moment of fame. It served as the home of Linda Strand in the 1948 film “I de lyse natter”, capturing the hearts of moviegoers. The house has undergone some changes over the years. In the late 19th century, architect Ferdinand Meldahl added pergolas, linking the main wing and side wings. These graceful additions have since been removed, returning Christianelyst to its original splendor. Today, Christianelyst stands as a reminder of enduring love and architectural grace. It offers a glimpse into a bygone era, where romance and history intertwined on the tranquil shores of Bagsværd Lake. It’s a place where the past whispers secrets to the present, a true gem hidden in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen.
