A small group of faithful believers, led by Pastor Maceo L. Woods, started Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in their homes. This was in 1960. Soon after, in December of the same year, Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church found its home at 4712 S. Prairie Avenue in Chicago. Their beginning was humble. Pastor Woods described Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church as “the growing church with the family spirit.” The church adopted the motto, “God can do anything but fail!” This spirit and motto guided them. Over the years, Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church has transformed lives. They have served the community. They have met countless needs. Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church identifies as an independent, free-spirit ministry. While they have a Baptist label, their focus is on a relationship with Christ. This emphasis on relationship transcends denominational titles. They associate and fellowship with a variety of denominations. Despite some doctrinal differences, they find common ground. They share a belief in the Bible as God’s word and the deity of Christ. These shared beliefs have fostered long-lasting relationships. Some of these fellowships have existed since the church began over 60 years ago. This demonstrates the power of unity among believers.
