What started as a small Bible study has blossomed into the Christian Gospel Church. This church stands as a testament to faith and vision. Let’s journey back to the roots of this vibrant community.
In August 1984 amidst national unrest the Gospel Church of Manila held its first Sunday worship service. Employees of the State Group of Companies gathered for weekly Bible study. They sought prayer and fellowship for spiritual growth.
The decision to start Sunday worship came from a deep desire to connect with God. It was a spiritual refuge during turbulent times. The Philippines faced economic and political instability after Ninoy Aquino’s assassination. Businesses closed and unemployment rose. Recognizing the need for spiritual nourishment employees continued to gather. The company granted them space on the 16th floor of the State Center in Binondo.
The inaugural service saw more than 50 attendees. Although attendance fluctuated a dedicated core of worshippers emerged. Families residing nearby also joined the growing community of the Christian Gospel Church.
In 1989 the church was officially incorporated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Rev Edwin Ormeo served as the first pastor. Later Rev Greg Ambrose Roasa took the lead. The church’s early years included establishing key ministries. Evangelism training Sunday school and children’s ministry became integral.
In 2004 the Christian Gospel Church set a bold vision. It aimed to establish 20 churches over the next 20 years. This reflected their commitment to spreading the Gospel across the Philippines.
Today the Gospel Church of Manila celebrates its 40th anniversary. The church proclaims its Vision 2020 has been accomplished in Christ. The next decade brings a fresh mandate. Vision 5050 aims to establish 50 churches by its 50th year. This echoes the Apostle Paul’s call in Acts 20:24.
The Christian Gospel Church story is one of unwavering faith. It is a story of community and commitment to spreading the Gospel. It began with a small group seeking solace. It has grown into a network of believers transforming lives. As you stand here remember the church’s humble beginnings. Think about its vision for the future. Consider how it has touched countless lives. The Christian Gospel Church stands as a beacon of hope. It offers faith and community to all who seek it.
