“Rooted in a dream.” That’s how the story of Christ Church Chicago begins. It is a story that reflects faith and transformation.
Christ Church Chicago started as Holy Trinity Church in 1998. A group of 37 adults planted a small congregation in Hyde Park. Pastors David R. Helm and Jon M. Dennis led them. Their vision was to create a gospel-centered church. It would bring long-term change to Chicago and beyond.
For two decades, the congregation grew. It met in various spaces throughout Hyde Park and Kenwood. Eventually, the church expanded to four congregations. These congregations were located across the North, West, South, and Central parts of the city.
In 2020, the leaders prayerfully considered planting Holy Trinity Hyde Park. It would become a new congregation named Christ Church Chicago. After much prayer, Christ Church Chicago purchased a new building. This allowed them to grow deeper roots on the South Side and across the city.
An extensive renovation followed. The historic building underwent significant improvements. Decorative plaster and art glass were restored. New auditorium seating was added. Classrooms were created.
On October 2, 2022, Christ Church Chicago officially dedicated its new space. This dedication marked a new chapter. It was celebrated with special services.
