What started as a dream in 1998 has blossomed into the Christ Church Chicago we see today. Originally planted as Holy Trinity Church it became an independent church in 2020. The story of Christ Church Chicago is one of vision dedication and growth.
In 1998 founding leaders David R. Helm and Jon M. Dennis envisioned something bigger. They wanted to be part of a gospel-centered church. They wanted it to be a catalyst for change in Chicago. With just 37 adults they planted a small congregation in Hyde Park.
For two decades the Hyde Park congregation moved around. They met in various spaces throughout Hyde Park and Kenwood. The church expanded to four congregations across Chicago. They were in the North West South and Center of the city.
As the church grew in 2020 leaders considered a new path. The elders prayerfully discussed planting Holy Trinity Hyde Park. They would rename it Christ Church Chicago. God provided a new building on Chicago’s South Side. This allowed Christ Church Chicago to grow deeper roots.
An extensive renovation transformed the historic building. Workers restored decorative plaster and art glass. They installed new auditorium seating. Classrooms were added.
The Christ Church Chicago building was officially dedicated on October 2 2022. It was a day of celebration and thanksgiving. It marked a new chapter for the church. The Christ Church Chicago purchased a building to grow deeper roots on the South Side of Chicago and across the city.
Now Christ Church Chicago stands as a testament to its original vision. It’s a generative gospel-centered church. It continues to impact Chicago and beyond.
