Drawn to humble people Christ Church Chicago stands as a testament to faith. Christ Church Chicago started as Holy Trinity Church in 1998. Leaders asked God to let them be part of something bigger. Pastors David R. Helm and Jon M. Dennis led 37 adults. They planted a small congregation in Hyde Park. The vision was a gospel-centered church. It would create long-term change in Chicago.
For twenty years the Hyde Park congregation met in different places. These locations spanned Hyde Park and Kenwood. The church grew to four congregations. These covered the North, West, South, and Center of Chicago.
In 2020, the elders considered planting Holy Trinity Hyde Park. It would become a new congregation called Christ Church Chicago. After much prayer Christ Church Chicago purchased a building. This allowed them to grow deeper roots. It would serve the South Side and the entire city.
The historic building underwent extensive renovation. Workers restored decorative plaster and art glass. New auditorium seating was installed. Classrooms were added.
On October 2, 2022, Christ Church Chicago dedicated its new space. They held dedication and celebration services.
Christ Church Chicago believes in the Bible. They see it as God’s Word. The church values equipping themselves with God’s Word. They want to know it and be transformed by it. They submit their lives to it.
The gospel is central. It is the message of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Christ Church Chicago believes the gospel transforms believers. They share it through words and actions.
Jesus has all authority. He is God’s king. Christ Church Chicago submits to his rule.
The church believes family extends beyond blood relations. It includes those pursuing Christ together. Young or old all enrich the community.
Having experienced God’s mercy Christ Church Chicago extends it to others. They offer physical, emotional, and spiritual relief.
The reconciling work of Jesus Christ brings the community together. They value diversity. Racial, cultural, and socio-economic differences strengthen the church.
Christ Church Chicago values weakness. They depend on the Holy Spirit. Prayer is important.
You can join Christ Church Chicago on Sundays. Services are at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The 9 a.m. hour includes classes for all ages. Children’s classes are during the 10:30 a.m. service.
Christ Church Chicago is located at 6154 South Woodlawn Avenue. Free parking is available. The lot is at Woodlawn and 62nd Street.
