Peeking out from Lot One Shoppers’ Mall is the inviting entrance to the Choa Chu Kang Public Library. This isn’t just any library. It’s a community hub brimming with stories and innovative spaces designed to spark curiosity.
Choa Chu Kang Public Library first opened its doors on February 22, 1997. It occupied the 3rd floor of Lot One then. The Minister for Health and the Environment, Yeo Cheow Tong, inaugurated it. It held about 174,663 books and 9,837 journals within its 1,477 square meters.
Did you know that this library pioneered self-check machines in Singapore? Back in June 1998, it tested Borrower’s Enquiry Machines with CashCard payment. A Customer Service counter once displayed an image of the last tiger in the area.
In November 2008, the Choa Chu Kang Public Library moved to the 4th floor. It expanded its space and increased seating from 93 to 233. The design took inspiration from nearby farms in Choa Chu Kang, Lim Chu Kang, and Kranji. Green and wood tones evoked the serenity of nature.
However, in June 2019, the library unexpectedly closed for renovations. For two years, residents had no access to its resources.
But on October 28, 2021, it reopened after extensive refurbishment. The Choa Chu Kang Public Library now spans two floors in Lot One Shoppers’ Mall.
This revamped library boasts unique features. A Community Wall fosters connections. Nature Walls bring the outdoors inside. There is even a Hydroponics Showcase and an Indoor Garden.
Kids can enjoy an Augmented Reality Learning Trail throughout the library. The theme is “(Re)Connect with Nature.” It blends design and technology to promote environmental awareness.

The Children Zone on Level 5 caters to kids aged six and below. The Indoor Garden reflects Choa Chu Kang’s farming heritage. It offers a peaceful space for reading.
Older children aged 7 to 12 can find books next to the Teen Zone on Level 4.
The Choa Chu Kang Public Library extends its hours via a pilot program. Patrons can enter earlier or stay later using their NRIC or library card.
Today, the library holds about 190,000 volumes. This includes magazines, fiction, and non-fiction titles. The Children’s Collection has 74,000 books. The Adults’ Collection contains 95,240 books. You can find 390 magazine titles and 10 newspapers here.
