Chikushino has an estimated population of over 106,000. The city covers about 87 square kilometers. It’s located in the central part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Saga Prefecture borders Chikushino to the southwest. The Sefuri Mountain Range lies near the Saga border.

After the Meiji Restoration, villages formed. These included Futsukaichi, Yamaguchi, Chikushi, Mikasa, and Yamaga. Futsukaichi became a town in 1895. In 1955, these villages merged with Futsukaichi. The new town was named Chikushino. Chikushino officially became a city on April 1, 1972.
