Standing before the Château du Haut-Buc, a reminder of bygone days whispers through the air. The elegant facade stands a testament to its rich history, a history that unfolds like a captivating tale. The Château du Haut-Buc, once a refuge for a royal illegitimate son, a symbol of ambition and intrigue, stands before you.

Built in the mid-19th century, this château replaced a previous one, originally built for Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, the illegitimate son of Louis XIV. The king had the first château built in the late 17th century to shield his son from the prying eyes of the court. But, the château was destroyed by order of Louis XV in 1740, deemed a symbol of his father’s illicit love.

Over a century later, the site was brought back to life by Léon Thomas, a wealthy Parisian bourgeois. This new château, with its grand balcony and Louis XV style balustrade, evokes the elegance of the past. However, the château’s history didn’t end with Thomas. Its ownership changed hands numerous times until the State acquired it in 1954, and used it as a school building. Today, the château stands as a monument to the shifting sands of time, a place where history and modernity interweave.

Step inside the château and imagine the echoes of the past filling the halls. Imagine the whispers of clandestine encounters, the rustling of silk gowns, and the clinking of glasses during glittering receptions. Perhaps you can even hear the distant sounds of a telescope turning toward the heavens, a testament to the passion of an amateur astronomer who once called this place home.

The Château du Haut-Buc, a silent witness to centuries of stories, welcomes you to explore its enduring charm and the fascinating secrets it holds. So, let your imagination roam as you wander through the halls and gardens of this enchanting venue.
