In 1508, the foundations of Château de Lésigny were laid, replacing an older medieval fortress. The Château de Lésigny has seen centuries of history unfold within its walls. Under François I, the land belonged to Louis de Poncher, a royal secretary and treasurer. The Château de Lésigny then passed through various hands, becoming home to the Pierrevive family. Queen Catherine de Medici even visited in 1573. A legal battle led to the château’s sale in 1613. Leonora Dori, also known as “Galigaï,” wife of Concini, purchased it. She embarked on renovations, creating an orangery, gardens, and a chapel consecrated in 1615. Marie de Medici also visited Château de Lésigny that year. However, the Concinis fell from grace in 1617. Concini was assassinated, and Leonora was executed for witchcraft. Their property, including Château de Lésigny, was confiscated and given to Charles d’Albert de Luynes, a favorite of Louis XIII. Luynes continued the embellishments, focusing on the gardens and water features. He even decorated a room in honor of the king, who visited several times. The Château de Lésigny suffered damage during the Fronde uprising in 1649. It was later sold multiple times. In the tumultuous year of 1793, the Duchess of Orléans inherited the château, only to see it confiscated and sold as national property five years later. In 1822, Charles Archdeacon, future mayor of Lésigny, acquired the Château de Lésigny. It remained within his family for a century and a half, passed down through the female line. In 1958, Jacques Lacroix, co-founder of Studio Harcourt, bought the estate. He began fifteen years of extensive restoration work. He restored buildings, ceilings, framework, and the roof, along with the French gardens. Upon its resale in 1973, the furniture was auctioned and dispersed. After a decade of neglect and the loss of land for the Francilienne highway, the Château de Lésigny and its park were purchased by Mr. Magnus. While no longer a residence, it serves as a venue for receptions and film productions. It also opens its doors to the public during heritage days, allowing visitors to glimpse its rich past. From royal visits to periods of turmoil and restoration, the Château de Lésigny continues to stand as a testament to the passage of time.
