Nestled in the commune of Châteaufort the Chapelle Lacoste stands as a testament to faith and history. This small chapel offers visitors a place for quiet meditation. It remains open to the public every day.

Originally, a simple oratory stood here. The Boucel brothers founded it around 1350. This sacred spot became linked to the commune of Châteaufort. Centuries later in the 18th century the Chapelle Lacoste was constructed on the same ground.

Denis Lacoste built it. He served as an assistant provost marshal for the King’s armies. Also, he owned the Aigrefoin farm. The chapel appeared on the administration map of 1787 under the name Lacoste Chapel.

This masonry building is small. It covers only about nine square meters. Slate tiles cover its roof. The Chapelle Lacoste has just one opening. This opening is a door. An iron gate encloses the doorway.

The Chapelle Lacoste holds significance. It stands as one of the few chapels in the region. The chapel became a place of pilgrimage. People came here seeking rain.

The Lacoste Chapel’s history is deeply intertwined with the community. It became too small for the growing population of Cressely. A new milestone chapel was built. It was dedicated to Sainte-Marie Reine du Monde in the 1960s. This new chapel houses a Virgin in Majesty statue. The statue dates back to the 15th century. It stands 66 cm tall.

Despite the construction of the new chapel the Chapelle Lacoste still welcomes visitors. Its doors are open every day. This ensures that anyone can meditate in a religious setting whenever they wish. The commune owns the Lacoste Chapel. This ensures its preservation for future generations.

Imagine the faithful gathering here centuries ago. They prayed for rain during droughts. They sought solace within its walls during troubled times. Today, the chapel continues to offer peace and reflection to all who enter.

The Chapelle Lacoste is small but significant. It stands as a reminder of the past and a place of contemplation in the present. It represents the enduring power of faith. Also, it shows the community’s commitment to preserving its heritage. As you stand before it take a moment to appreciate its simple beauty. Reflect on the history held within its walls.
