Standing here, the Chapelle de Cernay whispers tales of faith and transformation. Situated on Rue du Général Decaen this chapel’s story began in 1869. At that time the Filles de la charité Saint-Vincent-de-Paul started building an orphelinat. This orphange for young girls was built in the Cernay quarter. It was intended to supplement the Saint-Roch parish in Paris. The parish had become too small.

Let me tell you more about the Chapelle de Cernay. The chapel is dedicated to the Sacré-Cœur. It features a single nave with three bays. A rectangular sanctuary completes the structure.

Did you know that the Chapelle de Cernay served as a place of worship? This happened during the reconstruction of the Saint-Flaive church in 1887. Imagine the community gathering here. They sought solace and spiritual guidance within these walls.

However, the sisters departed in 1969. By 1985 the orphanage fell into disrepair and was demolished. Yet, the Chapelle de Cernay was restored. Its stained-glass windows feature geometric orange shapes. These are the work of Gérard Hermet-Mireille Juteau. The chapel then became a municipal cultural space.

Notice the simple bell tower atop the facade of the Chapelle de Cernay. The style blends medieval inspiration with classical proportions. Look at the buttresses and the facade’s rose window. The interior’s molded decor also nods to the 17th century.

The Chapelle de Cernay stands as a testament to adaptation. It evolved from a religious space to a cultural hub. The story of the Chapelle de Cernay reflects community and artistic expression. Its walls once echoed with hymns and prayers. Now it resonates with art and culture. It is a reminder of how places can change. Yet they retain their importance in the community.
