Tucked away in a quiet Lisbon neighborhood, the Chafariz do Alto do Pina stands as a unique landmark. This 20th-century fountain blends limestone and iron in a way that sets it apart from other Lisbon fountains. The Chafariz do Alto do Pina sits at the intersection of Rua Sabino de Sousa and Rua Quatro de Agosto. The fountain is built on a two-tiered circular platform. Three concrete steps lead up to the platform. The fountain itself consists of a circular limestone basin. A green iron column rises from the center. The column features decorative elements, including leaf-like adornments and a slender spout. The Chafariz do Alto do Pina is surrounded by three-story residential buildings, creating a tranquil urban setting. The area around the fountain has been paved, and the small platform creates a roundabout at the intersection. The Chafariz do Alto do Pina may not be as grand as some of Lisbon’s other fountains. However, its unique design and quiet location offer a glimpse into a different side of the city’s rich history.
