Cevhera\u011fa Cami was built in 1897. Sultan Abd\u00fclhamid II ordered it to be built. Cevher A\u011fa oversaw its construction. He was a close confidant of the Sultan. The mosque stands on Cevhera\u011fa Cami Sokak in \u00dcmraniye.
Initially, Cevhera\u011fa Cami was quite small. It featured an interior with a cradle vault. Its exterior had a wooden roof. A seemingly unremarkable structure. The sa\u011f\u0131r dome rests on four arches. Flat corner tromps support it. The exterior is clad in granite. Light streams in through four windows. The mihrab is set in a niche within the wall.
Adjacent to the mosque, stone buildings once stood. These buildings served as schools for boys and girls. They emphasized the importance of education alongside faith.
As \u00dcmraniye grew in 1962, the mosque became too small. It was expanded to the right extending to the school. A new mihrab with plaster stalactites was added in that expansion. The mosque then had two mihrabs. The original mihrab became home to the preacher’s platform. The wooden minbar was moved to the new section. The original entrance was bricked up. A new entrance was opened on the left.
This mosque also goes by other names. Locals sometimes call it Cafera\u011fa Cami. Others know it as \u00dcmraniye Cami. Despite its modest beginnings, Cevhera\u011fa Cami stands as a testament to history. It reflects the evolving needs of its community. It symbolizes the enduring power of faith.
