Elevated above us, Centro Comercial Colombo stands as a monument to Portugal’s Age of Discovery. It opened its doors on September 15, 1997. The mall’s design, with its “Avenue of the Discoveries” and “Square Tropic of Cancer,” initially echoed the grandeur of that era. Centro Comercial Colombo has since modernized its interiors, blending contemporary aesthetics with its historical theme. This massive shopping center boasts being the largest in the Iberian Peninsula by store count, housing over 340 shops within its 119,725 square meters. Among its retail giants are Fnac, Zara, Sport Zone, Adidas Originals, and the largest Primark in Portugal. Beyond shopping, Centro Comercial Colombo offers a diverse range of entertainment. There’s a cinema with nine screens, a bowling alley, an outdoor garden, and a wide selection of over 60 restaurants. The initial project included the Towers of Colombo. However, due to a Lisbon city council embargo that went to court, construction didn’t begin until 2007. Torre Oriente was completed first, followed by Torre Ocidente in 2011. Centro Comercial Colombo isn’t just about commerce and leisure. It’s designed with environmental consciousness in mind, incorporating energy-saving policies and waste recycling programs. So, as you explore this modern marvel, remember that within its walls lies a tribute to Portugal’s rich history and a commitment to a sustainable future.
