Within the vibrant tapestry of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, discover the Central Sulawesi Pavilion. It’s a journey into the heart of Indonesia’s linguistic epicenter. Central Sulawesi boasts an astounding 21 local languages, a testament to its rich cultural diversity. The pavilion showcases the architectural heritage of various ethnic groups, including the Kaili, To Lobo, and others. Four traditional structures beckon you to explore: the regal Souraja, the distinctive Tambi house, a traditional rice barn (Gambiri), and an art shop housed in an office building. The Souraja, a traditional noble house of the Kaili people, stands elevated on stilts. Its intricately carved panels (panapiri) and ornate crowns (bangko-bangko) whisper tales of ancient craftsmanship. Step inside and find three distinct rooms. The Lonta Karawana welcomes guests as a bedroom, while the Lonta Tatangana serves as a communal space for family gatherings and cultural displays. Admire the regional costumes and witness a recreation of a Kaili wedding procession. Finally, the Lonta Rorana invites you to dine, with dedicated women’s quarters tucked away in the rear corners. Venture further to discover the Avu, the kitchen space in the back building. Observe the mesmerizing art of Donggala sarong weaving. The Tambi house, a traditional dwelling of the To Lobo tribe, presents a unique architectural style. Its square shape and steeply pitched pyramid roof are immediately striking. Notice the single door positioned on the left side of the Lobana, the front part of the house. In the center, the rapu serves as both kitchen and hearth, providing light and warmth during the night. The open space adjacent transforms into a versatile area for dining, sleeping, and receiving guests. Buffalo head carvings adorn the door leaves. Buffalo horns of varying sizes hang from the backbone pillars. Meet the statues of Tadulako and Langkae Bulava from the southern Los region. They embody the image of an ideal couple: a handsome and courageous father and a beautiful mother. As you explore, remember a culinary delight from Palu: Kaledo. This rich beef bone soup, simmered to perfection, features a clear broth infused with aromatic spices like tamarind, bird’s eye chili, and salt. It’s a culinary adventure not to be missed, best enjoyed with a side of rice or sweet potatoes.
