Five men. A videoke bar. A moonless night. The Cementina Dolores Bridge. These were the ingredients of a tragedy that unfolded one July morning in 2013.

The Cementina Dolores Bridge is more than just a structure connecting Pasay and Makati. It’s a silent witness to the city’s pulse. It spans the Estero de Tripa de Gallina. This waterway is a vital artery in Metro Manila’s complex network of rivers and estuaries. The bridge itself is a significant landmark. Its location marks the boundary between Pasay and Makati cities. You can almost feel the tension of two cities merging here.

The night of the shooting is etched into the bridge’s memory. Andrew Loyd Cruz Chuckie Dee Cruz Raymart Saraza Francisco Cruz and Rogelio Diala Jr were walking home. Their laughter was abruptly silenced by gunfire. Three men on motorcycles unleashed a deadly barrage. Eighteen empty shells of a .40 caliber pistol were scattered on the bridge deck. A grim testament to the violence that night. The killers escaped. Their motorcycles vanished into the Libertad Street shadows.

The NCRPO immediately launched an investigation. Chief Police Director Leonardo Espina urged his officers to solve the case. The victims were young men. Their families were left grieving. Two of the victims were brothers. Ironically temporarily free on bail for drug possession. Their lives ended prematurely on that fateful night.

The Cementina Dolores Bridge continues to stand. It bears the weight of traffic. It connects lives. It also bears the silent weight of that tragic night. It’s a somber reminder of the fragility of life. Of the unexpected darkness that can descend even on familiar streets. The memories linger. The unanswered questions remain.

The Cementina Dolores Bridge. A simple bridge with a heavy story. Remember this. Remember them.
