From a small school of 125 students on Highway 67 to a bustling hub of over 2,000, Cedar Hill High School has quite the story to tell. Right here, on Longhorn Boulevard, stands a testament to growth, ambition, and the unwavering spirit of the Longhorns. Cedar Hill High School isn’t just a building. It’s a living, breathing entity that has evolved alongside the city it serves. Originally located on North Broad Street, where Bray Elementary now stands, the school embarked on its first move in 1957. Picture the scene: a smaller, perhaps cozier, Cedar Hill High School on Highway 67. This initial relocation marked the beginning of an incredible journey. By 1978, the school’s population had tripled, necessitating a move to its current location. The original design featured a circular hallway surrounding a courtyard, the very spot where the library now stands. Can you imagine the echoes of students past in these halls? The school’s physical expansion mirrored the growth of its student body and ambitions. A second story, a new gym, an expanded cafeteria, and additional classrooms were added in 1987, more than doubling the school’s size. Another wing and athletic complex appeared in 1998, followed by the new stadium in 2000. In 2004, the Performing Arts Center took center stage, and in 2015, a final wing and the baseball/softball complex completed the picture. Cedar Hill High School has become a 6A powerhouse, serving grades 9-12. Its diverse student body represents a microcosm of the vibrant community, with the majority being African-American and Hispanic students. But Cedar Hill High School isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about the programs that shape young minds. The S.T.E.A.M. program, established in 2015, nurtures future scientists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians. Numerous Advanced Placement courses provide a pathway to college-level learning right here on campus. And who could forget the legendary Longhorns athletics? With three state football championships under their belts, the Longhorns have cemented their place in Texas high school football history. The 2006 victory against Cypress Falls, the 2013 triumph over Katy, and the repeat performance in 2014 are etched in the hearts of every Longhorn. The Cedar Hill Red Army Marching Band and cheerleaders add to the vibrant atmosphere, showcasing the school’s spirit and talent. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a leading 6A school, Cedar Hill High School has always been about more than just education. It’s about building a community, fostering dreams, and empowering students to become the leaders of tomorrow.
