Casa del Alfarero. The name itself translates to “The Potter’s House”. This reflects a core belief in shaping lives through faith. It represents the Christian church’s mission.
Our story begins in 1970. Pastor Wayman and Nelda Mitchell moved to Prescott Arizona. They took charge of a small congregation. Soon after their arrival, many young hippies were saved. These youths differed from the existing church members. God poured out his Spirit upon the congregation. Pastor Mitchell embraced these young people. The first concert was a tool for evangelism. Over 200 young people attended. Many found salvation.
From the start, Pastor Mitchell viewed the concerts as ministry training. The youth committed to Jesus. They dedicated themselves to the church. People who were radically converted shared their experiences. Personal evangelism became a basic foundation of the church. Impact teams formed. These teams traveled to nearby cities. They helped people. They shared their experiences.
In 1973, the first couple was sent to start a church in another city. God blessed them. Churches began to be planted throughout the southwestern United States. By 1978, a couple established a church in Australia. They found the Gospel worked as well as in the United States. Churches then started in Mexico Holland and Germany. As they understood God’s global mission, churches were planted worldwide. Today, there are over 3000 churches in over 120 nations.
Wayman and Nelda Mitchell were married for 63 years. Neither had religious education. They experienced powerful conversions in their mid-20s. After answering the call to preach, they pastored churches in Canada Arizona Idaho Oregon and California. In 1970, they arrived in Prescott. They welcomed a small struggling congregation. God saved several hippies. He welcomed them into the church. God initiated conversions and growth relating to the “Jesus Movement” of the 1970s. When God revealed His plan for discipleship, churches began to plant in the United States. They extended to other nations. The Mitchells pastored as missionaries in Australia. Pastor Mitchell traveled globally. He preached at conferences leadership meetings discipleship classes and healing crusades.
Casa del Alfarero in Mexico was founded in the summer of 1974. It began in Nogales Sonora. It was the first missionary church. Wayman O. Mitchell sent it. It had a vision for great things.
Casa del Alfarero in Nogales Sonora opened with a concert. It was in a place opposite Miguel Hidalgo Square. It became a historic revival. It impacted Nogales and Mexico.
Today, Nogales is the fellowship’s capital in Mexico. The church leads over 300 churches in Mexico. It leads many international churches in Central and South America. It even leads churches in Spain. The church has its own building. It can hold over 1500 people. Nogales is impacted by aggressive evangelism. Miracles crusades are held. Revivals and concerts happen. Many people give their lives to Jesus Christ. Eight more churches have planted in Nogales. What began small has become a powerful movement. It has impacted the world.
Casa del Alfarero continues to spread its message. The church is part of over 2200 churches in the United States and 117 nations. They focus on the arts. They use singing acting and instruments to praise God. The church uses the gifts God has given. They spread the good news of Jesus Christ. They have sent churches to China Russia and India.
