The Jesuits dedicated the second adobe church to San Ignacio de Loyola in 1675. He was the founder of their order. The present church construction stretched from 1686 to 1722 and was consecrated in 1734.

The facade of the Capilla San Ignacio de Loyola showcases colonial baroque architecture. Some say the Jesuit architects Krauss Bianchi and Prímoli designed it. The facade features symmetry Solomonic columns and niches with sculptures. A curved pediment displays the Jesuit coat of arms.
