The Hogar Margarita Uriarte de Herrera itself has a rich history. Established in 1961 it’s managed by the Hermanas Hospitalarias del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. They partner with INAU the Uruguayan Institute for Children and Adolescents. For decades this home has provided care and support. It has nurtured the potential within its residents.
In 2009 a significant event shaped the Capilla del Hogar Margarita and the entire home’s future. The Japanese Embassy made a generous donation of US$85,222. This substantial sum funded crucial renovations. These renovations included upgrading the workshops. The goal was to create a more comfortable and suitable environment for the young women. INAU contributed additional funds. Together these contributions transformed the facilities including the chapel.
The inauguration of these renovations was a momentous occasion. It took place on April 24 2012. The event was attended by dignitaries including the Japanese Ambassador Kenichi Sakuma and INAU President Alejandro Salsamendi. Sister Griselda Gonzalez and Sister Ernestina also attended. Sister Ernestina was the Director of the Hogar Margarita at the time.
