Its story begins long ago in 1275. The land then known as the Manor of Honeylands and Pentriches alias Capels was held by Ellis of Honeyland. A manor house existed then. It wasn’t the majestic Georgian structure you see today that dates back to the 1750s.

Capel Manor College’s journey is a testament to the vision of Frances Perry. A local horticulturist she dreamed of transforming the neglected estate into a thriving horticultural college. In 1968 her dream took root. The first 15 students enrolled at the Capel Manor Centre for Horticultural Education. In that same year Perry achieved a remarkable feat becoming the first woman elected to the Royal Horticultural Society Council. A fascinating fact isn’t it? Capel Manor College continued to blossom under the patronage of Deborah Cavendish Duchess of Devonshire and the trusteeship of Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles.
