Atop the rugged cliffs, Cape Horn / Matengarahi commands attention. Cape Horn isn’t the famous southernmost tip of South America. This Cape Horn offers a different kind of maritime drama. It overlooks the Manukau Harbour in Auckland. From this vantage point, you can follow the paths of ships navigating the waterway. Waikowhai Park below invites a leisurely stroll. Children can enjoy the playground while you prepare a picnic. The park offers two paths to the lookout. 267 steps lead directly to the top for a brisk climb. Or, at low tide, you can explore the shoreline route. The shoreline path unveils stunning harbour views and glimpses into the native forest. This vibrant ecosystem teems with birdlife. Remember to check the tide charts. The foreshore path is only accessible two hours before and after low tide. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and prepare for both sun and rain. Cape Horn Lookout awaits, ready to share its maritime tales and scenic beauty.
