Opened in 2011, the Campus Universidad Nacional del Oeste stands as a testament to Argentina’s commitment to education. The campus itself is relatively young. But its roots are deep, intertwined with a poignant moment in Argentine history. The inauguration date, September 16th, was deliberately chosen. It marks the anniversary of “The Night of the Pencils,” a tragic event during the Dirty War where student activists were abducted. This dedication to remembrance underscores the university’s commitment to social justice and the power of education. The National University of the West, or Universidad Nacional del Oeste as it’s known locally, isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a symbol of hope and resilience. Located in San Antonio de Padua, in the Merlo Partido of Buenos Aires Province, the Campus Universidad Nacional del Oeste serves a vital role in the community. The university offers a diverse range of degrees. These include business administration, public administration, computer science, nursing, and physical education. The Campus Universidad Nacional del Oeste wasn’t built overnight. Years of effort, starting with a proposal in 2007 by Senator José Pampuro, led to its creation. The initial rector, Dr. Marcelo Ducrós, played a crucial role in establishing the university. The first classes were actually held in a rather unusual location: the Ituzaingó Golf Club. Later, an agreement with the Franciscan Order allowed students to use facilities at the San Antonio de Padua Church complex. Imagine studying amidst the tranquility of a historic monastery! This resourceful approach demonstrates the community’s dedication to education. The modern campus, situated on 20 hectares, boasts state-of-the-art facilities. This includes the recently inaugurated School of Health Sciences building and a grand Aula Magna. These new additions, part of a national infrastructure program, represent a significant investment in the future of Argentina’s students.
