Over 29000 square meters of history stand before you. This is the Campus Acadêmico do Lumiar. It wasn’t always a hub of higher learning. For nearly eight decades this site housed the Practical School of Military Administration.
The Campus Acadêmico do Lumiar occupies the former grounds of the Lumiar Barracks also known as Quinta das Camélias. Established in 1916 this military institution trained administrators for the Portuguese army. Colonel Macedo Coelho its first commandant played a pivotal role in its creation. It operated here until 1996. Then the school moved to Póvoa de Varzim.
Today the Campus Acadêmico do Lumiar is a vibrant center of education and research. It hosts ISTEC the Superior Institute of Advanced Technologies. The grounds boast modern facilities. A student association thrives here. There’s even a bar restaurant and a playground. The campus offers various support services.
