Our Lady of Sorrows of the Flowery Field a name that whispers history. Campo Florido’s church stands before you a testament to resilience. Built in the late 1700s it’s seen centuries of change. The 1820 earthquake dealt a blow but it reopened in 1822. Emperor Agustín de Iturbide himself attended the ceremony.

The Mexican Revolution brought further turmoil. During the Ten Tragic Days of 1913 cannon fire ravaged Campo Florido. The church lay in ruins for twenty years. Its destruction is vividly captured in Salvador Toscano’s film Memorias de un Mexicano a powerful visual record of the era.

Campo Florido rose again. Reopened in 1934 it boasts stunning stained-glass windows. Thirteen scenes depict the Stations of the Cross. German artisans created them under the direction of R P Zeferino Maldonado Bojoges. Their beauty is a source of constant wonder for visitors.

The 1985 earthquakes struck again damaging Campo Florido severely. But Fray Andrés Rosas de la Vega refused to let the church close. He kept it open for worship. The main altarpiece a much-loved fixture was painstakingly restored.

Today Campo Florido stands near a grand octagonal intersection. It’s a symbol of the Colonia Doctores neighborhood’s enduring spirit.
