“Ahmet Ratip Paşa Köşkü” echoes through time. It was within these walls that the story of Çamlıca Kız Anadolu Lisesi began. Let’s delve into the captivating history of this esteemed institution.

In 1913, during the Second Constitutional Era, Çamlu0131ca İnas Sultanisi opened its doors. This marked it as one of the first boarding schools for girls in the Ottoman Empire. Ahmet Ratip Paşa, a prominent Ottoman statesman and one of the wealthiest men of his time, owned the very köşk in which the school was housed.

Imagine Ahmet Ratip Paşa. He served as the Hejaz Governor-General between 1892 and 1908. He commissioned the renowned architect Kemaleddin Bey to design his summer residence. This four-story building had 54 rooms. The köşk was a testament to opulence. Its beauty became legendary.

Following the declaration of the Second Constitutional Era in 1908, the Ministry of Education acquired the building. For a brief period, a girls’ high school was established. Educators were brought in from Germany. Yet this institution was short-lived.

However, in 1913, the köşk found new purpose. It became home to Çamlu0131ca İnas Sultanisi. The school faced challenges. World War I led to its closure shortly after its opening. It later reopened. As the sultani schools transitioned into liseler or high schools, it was renamed Çamlu0131ca Kız Lisesi. The school continued its educational mission until Istanbul’s liberation.

After the Republic was proclaimed, the lise transformed into a middle school. From 1923 to 1934, it operated as Çamlu0131ca Kız Ortaokulu. The story doesn’t end there.

In 1934, the middle school closed. But in 1939, Çamlu0131ca Kız Lisesi was reborn. It reopened as a girls’ high school, offering boarding facilities.

In 2008, the school underwent another transformation becoming Çamlu0131ca Kız Anadolu Lisesi. While its historical roots lie in Ahmet Ratip Paşa’s köşk, education now takes place in a modern school building.

Çamlu0131ca Kız Anadolu Lisesi stands as a beacon of education. It reflects Istanbul’s rich history. From its opulent beginnings as a paşa’s residence to its current role. It shapes young minds. The school embodies the spirit of progress and the enduring legacy of female education in Turkey. In 2019, the school readopted its original name: Çamlu0131ca Kız Lisesi.
