“Looking for a friendly, family-oriented church?” That’s the question Calvary Baptist Church seems to ask every visitor. Calvary Baptist Church’s story began in the early 1970s. A small group of believers met in Nunawading, Victoria. They wanted to hear the Word of God faithfully preached. American Pastor Doug Couch led them. Despite their different backgrounds, they shared a common goal.
In September 1973, Calvary Baptist Church was officially born. The church grew over the years. People were born again. They were baptised and joined the church. Several pastors led Calvary Baptist Church through growth and challenges. Programs like Sunday School and the Deaf Ministry helped them reach out. They moved buildings as they outgrew each one.
In 2001, under Pastor Ernie Veszely’s leadership, they took a leap of faith. They converted a restaurant into a dedicated church building. Fellowship was important. Refreshments after services, care groups, and family nights connected people. They encouraged each other in their faith.
After 29 years, Pastor and Mrs. Veszely retired in 2016. They passed the leadership to Pastor Manny Mallari and his wife, Cherry. They had served at Calvary Baptist Church since 2000. Pastor Mallari was installed on September 25, 2016.
Calvary Baptist Church continues its original purpose. It worships God. It reaches out to the world with Jesus Christ’s love. It speaks the truth in love.
