Walking up to this magnificent building, you might be surprised to learn that Burr Ridge United Church of Christ has a rich history that stretches back even further than its dedication in 1967. The story goes back to 1898, when a church called St. John’s Evangelical Church of Fullersburg laid the foundation for what would eventually become Burr Ridge United Church of Christ. Standing here today, it’s hard to imagine that over a century ago, St. John’s offered a place of worship and community in a very different time and place. Then, in 1957, the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the General Council of the Congregational Christian Churches united, marking a significant shift in the religious landscape. The union gave birth to the United Church of Christ, and soon after, in 1967, a new church was built—the one you see before you. The dedication ceremony on April 30th, 1967, marked the start of a new chapter for the church community, bringing together people from Burr Ridge and beyond. Now, Burr Ridge Community Church, as it is also known, continues to play a vital role in the community, offering a place of worship, outreach, and fellowship.
