Burgruine Sigberg

What secrets do these weathered stones hold? The Burgruine Sigberg, perched atop a hill overlooking the Gäfner Ried, has silently witnessed centuries of history. The first whispers of life at Burgruine Sigberg date back to the 13th century, with the noble Sigberger family laying claim to its stones. These knights, perhaps tied to the lineages of Göfis, Tunnes, and Tuvers, served the powerful Counts of Montfort. This allegiance, however, sparked a bitter rivalry with the nearby town of Feldkirch. Tragedy struck on May 1st, 1358. Count Rudolf III of Montfort, after turning against his own people, laid siege to Burgruine Sigberg, seeking those who had sought refuge within its walls. The once proud fortress crumbled under his assault. Rebuilt, but not for long, Burgruine Sigberg faced another attack in 1435, this time by the Swiss Count Friedrich von Toggenburg, leaving it scarred and abandoned yet again. Today, as you wander through the ruins, remnants of the keep and the sturdy ring wall whisper tales of these tumultuous times. Look closely, and you may find evidence of the multiple transformations Burgruine Sigberg underwent.
