Have you ever wondered what a former rubber plantation could become? Right here, in the heart of Jakarta, lies Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika. It’s a sprawling campsite, a testament to the vision of one woman, Ibu Tien Soeharto. In the early 1970s, she saw the potential of this 210-hectare expanse. She envisioned a place where Indonesia’s scouts could gather, learn, and connect with nature. Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika became a reality. The first National Jamboree was held here in 1973. It marked the beginning of a legacy for Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika. The site quickly evolved. An arboretum, a traffic park, a swimming pool, even a light aircraft airfield were added. A center showcasing the various Scout units also found its home here. Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika grew into the largest camping ground in Southeast Asia, a hub for scouting activities. Its success led to it hosting numerous subsequent National Jamborees. It even welcomed international events like the Asia Pacific Jamboree in 1981 and the ASEAN Jamboree in 2008. Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika isn’t just a campsite. It’s a living classroom. It offers a unique blend of recreation and education. This place, born from a rubber plantation, has blossomed into a vibrant center for outdoor activities. The National Scout Headquarters continues to develop Bumi Perkemahan Wiladatika, envisioning it as a model “Scout Campus.” It remains a symbol of Ibu Tien Soeharto’s vision and a testament to the enduring spirit of scouting.
