Have you ever wondered what it’s like to walk into a place where time seems to stand still? Here at the Buddhist Center of Dallas, you can experience exactly that. This temple, the heart of the Dallas Buddhist community, has a fascinating history that dates back to 1982.
Standing right in front of the Buddhist Center of Dallas, you can imagine its humble beginnings, when it was just a rented house on Country Club Drive. It was here in 1982 that Thai Buddhist monks first arrived in Dallas and created a space for followers to practice their faith. The monks, who came from Thailand, were welcomed by Dallas disciples and community members, eager to have a focal point for their religious practices.
But the little house on Country Club Drive wasn’t enough. This peaceful haven soon outgrew its space, and in 1983, the Buddhist Center purchased a larger property on Stults Road. It was a major investment for the community, costing $175,000 with a 35,000 down payment and a monthly mortgage.
With the new location, the Buddhist Center of Dallas flourished and grew. It’s a place where Buddhists can meet and gather, meditate together, listen to sermons, or simply sit in peaceful contemplation. The temple’s open style architecture creates a sense of welcoming tranquility that envelops all who enter. This space holds a unique energy, a peace that permeates the surrounding world.
