“Budapest 02.” It’s the standard short name for this place. Today we are standing at the edge of Budapesti 2. sz. országgyűlési egyéni választókerület.
Budapesti 2. sz. országgyűlési egyéni választókerület is one of Hungary’s 106 electoral districts. The 2011 law CCIII divided Hungary into these districts. Here voters elect a representative to the National Assembly. Its seat is in Budapest XI. district.
This district has a defined boundary. It starts from the Danube’s center line. It runs perpendicular to the Citadella’s peak and Szirtes Road. Then it follows Szirtes Road to Számadó Street. It continues on Gyula Street and Mihály Street to Somlói Road. From there, it goes along Somlói Road and Alsóhegy Street to Avar Street. It proceeds on Avar Street to Hegyalja Road. Then it runs on Hegyalja Road to Meredek Street. It follows Meredek Street and the northeastern side of Fátra tér back to Hegyalja Road. It continues on Hegyalja Road to Németvölgyi Road.
Next, it follows the old district boundary of the XII district. This is on Németvölgyi Road, Érdi Road, and Törökbálinti Road to Irhás Árok. In Irhás Árok, it reaches Kakukkhegyi Road. It runs on Kakukkhegyi Road to Kakukkhegyi Erdősor. The boundary continues along Kakukkhegyi Erdősor. It follows the old boundary to Budaörs. From Felső határút, it follows the old metropolitan boundary. This heads towards the MÁV railway line to Budaörs. It follows the MÁV railway line to Kelenföld railway station. From Kelenföld railway station, it runs along the northern side of Etele tér. This is on the odd-numbered side of Etele Road to Tétényi Road. Then, it runs along the center line of Etele Road to Petzvál József Street. It takes the odd-numbered side of Petzvál József Street to Mérnök Street. It continues on the even-numbered side of Mérnök Street to Mohai Road. It follows the odd-numbered side of Mohai Road to Sárbogárdi Road.
Finally, it runs east along the MÁV railway line. It parallels Sárbogárdi and Dombóvári Roads. This goes to the intersection of the Connecting Railway Bridge and the Danube’s center line. From the Danube’s center line, it runs north to the starting point. This encloses the area.
In 2022, the population was 93,205. This is a decrease of 2,344 since 2011. The largest group is young adults at 30,438. Children are the smallest group at 13,584. Internet access is available to 91.8% of the population. Most residents have a diploma 41,984. Next largest group is those with a high school diploma 27,684. More than half of the population is employed 44,812. The second largest group is inactive earners, mostly retirees 15,397.
Germans are the largest ethnic group 1,419. Ukrainians are also a significant group 499. Foreign citizens without Hungarian citizenship make up 5%. The largest religious group is Roman Catholic 21,953. There is a significant Reformed community 6,326. Those not belonging to a religious community are also numerous 14,544. This is the second largest group after Roman Catholics.
In the 2022 parliamentary election, Anna Orosz won for Egységben Magyarországért. She received 27,881 votes. István Simicskó won in 2018.
Budapesti 2. sz. országgyűlési egyéni választókerület is more than just a boundary on a map. It is a vibrant community. It is a place where people live, work and vote.
