Standing at the base of Buck Hill, you can almost feel the energy of generations past. The hill, named by early settlers who watched bucks drinking at Crystal Lake, has seen waves of skiers and snowboarders since 1954. Imagine Chuck Stone, a young man recovering from polio, searching for a hill in the Twin Cities to start a ski area. He stumbled upon Buck Hill, on a remote farm owned by Grace Whittier, and convinced her to lease it to him. He founded Buck Hill, a haven for skiers, snowboarders, and others seeking adventure. Today, Buck Hill is a hub of activity, with 16 trails, three chairlifts, and even snow tubing.

The hill is a landmark, a place where generations of skiers have learned to carve down the slopes. Legendary racers like Lindsey Vonn and Kristina Koznick honed their skills here. They learned from renowned coach Erich Sailer, who has been the racing coach at Buck Hill since 1969. It’s not just the skiing that makes Buck Hill special; it’s the community. Locals gather here, sharing stories, laughter, and hot chocolate on chilly winter days. The hill is more than just a place to ski; it’s a place to connect with nature and with each other.

The air is filled with the scent of pine and the sound of laughter. Looking up at the summit, you can almost see the deer grazing in the winter sun. Buck Hill, a place where generations have created memories and forged friendships.
