Have you heard the story of the tallest educational structure in the Philippines? That title belongs to Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall. It rises an impressive 90 meters. This 20-story academic complex is a vital part of De La Salle University.
Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall wasn’t always its name. It was formerly known as the GE or CED or ACTED Building. The building was renamed on September 28, 2005. This honored Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC. The hall was officially inaugurated on March 1, 2007. It celebrated Br. Andrew’s 67th birthday.
Philip H Recto Architects designed the building. It sits on a 1700 square meter lot. You will find it between Taft Avenue and Fidel Reyes Street. It is located in front of the Enrique M Razon Sports Center.
Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall houses several important departments. These include the General Education Department. It also houses the College of Education. The Asia-Pacific Center for Teachers’ Education and Development is here too. This makes it a hub of learning and development.
Inside Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall you’ll find classrooms of various sizes. There are large classrooms that can hold 120 students. Regular classrooms accommodate 45 students. Small classrooms are available for 25 students. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is on the ground floor. It moved here in July 2006 from St La Salle Hall. The University Library extension is on the second floor. Parking is available for 120 cars. It spans the third to sixth floors.
Need a break? A cafeteria is on the sixth floor. For reflection a chapel can be found on the 14th floor. A study hall occupies the 15th floor. The College of Education uses the 15th to 18th floors. ACTED is located on the 19th and 20th floors. The system offices are on the topmost floor. Here the university president holds office. An auditorium is on the 19th floor. A multi-purpose hall is on the top floor.
Brother Andrew Gonzalez Hall also houses the Br J Benedict Learning Resource Center. It is exclusively for scholars of the Natividad Galang-Fajardo Foundation. The LRC was named after Br. J Benedict FSC. He was the Vice-President for Alumni Affairs of De La Salle University. The center has a collection of books and DVDs. These resources cover technology science economics psychology sociology and the arts.
