Standing in front of Brooklands Primary School, in the heart of Blackheath, you might wonder where a school like this fits into the picture. It was established in September 2016, a bit later than some of the older primary schools in the area. From the outside it appears to be a modern building, maybe even almost new. However, the school is not brand new. In fact, it stands on the former grounds of Brooklands Primary School, a predecessor that existed before 2016. So, Brooklands is a new school in a sense but it’s also a school that has seen its share of history. Brooklands is special because it has maintained a sense of community despite being a “newcomer”. It even has a nursery, which is great news for parents with young children. Not far from the school is the Blackheath Westcombe Ward. This ward is full of history, just like Brooklands, with a lot of old houses and historical landmarks. Today, however, it is known for its bustling shops, green spaces and great transport connections. Brooklands Primary School is an academy converter, which means that it is run by a governing body that is appointed by a trust. The Maritime Academy Trust governs Brooklands. Brooklands is a busy school filled with energy and hope. It’s clear, that Brooklands plays a big part in the community here. On the other side of the school is the beautiful Blackheath Common. What sets it apart from other schools is Brooklands’ unique locality. It is a small school, that is very close to everything. Maybe it’s small, but it’s also mighty. And that’s why it’s a gem among the other schools in Blackheath.
