Proudly standing here is Bromley Beacon Academy. It is more than just a school. It is a place of growth and opportunity. Since opening in 2016 Bromley Beacon Academy has been committed to providing an outstanding education. The school serves pupils from all backgrounds.
Bromley Beacon Academy is a member of London South East Academies Trust. This trust includes nine schools. These schools provide a mix of special, alternative, and mainstream education. Bromley Beacon Academy converted to academy status in February 2016.
The academy is designated as a Social Emotional Mental Health school. It operates on three sites in the London Borough of Bromley. These are Midfield for KS1, Orpington for KS2 & 3 and Bromley for KS4 & 5. Each site focuses on specific age groups and their unique needs.
At Bromley Beacon Academy pupils acquire values and skills. They also gain knowledge and understanding. This prepares them for life beyond the classroom. The academy aims to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and resilience. This supports pupils as they grow. They will become purposeful young adults. They will contribute to society positively.
The Orpington campus caters to 7 to 13 year olds. These are Key Stages 2 and 3. There is also a hub at Bromley Trust Academy Midfield for Key Stage 1 pupils. The focus is on developing core skills in literacy and numeracy. The academy offers a broad range of other subjects. This provides real interest for its pupils.
Bromley Beacon Academy has core values at each of its sites. BTAM’s values are DECIDE. This stands for discovery, endeavour, community, independence, decisions and everyday. BBAO’s values are LIFE. This represents learning, independence, friendship and emotions. BBAB’s values are RIHTT. This means relationship, integrity, honesty, trust and teamwork.
The school prepares its pupils to DECIDE and get LIFE RIHTT. Specialist staff are highly committed. They have extremely high expectations for every pupil. This ensures young people achieve their potential. Bromley Beacon Academy provides opportunities for pupils. They can experience a wide variety of subjects and enrichment programs. The school also has strong partnerships with parents. This provides support for every pupil. The education of young people is a shared responsibility.
OFSTED has validated the school’s progress. Inspectors noted improved pupil achievement year on year. This has occurred since the appointment of the executive headteacher and new staff. Pupils make strong progress across the curriculum. This includes English and mathematics.
Philip Tagoe is the Headteacher across all phases. He aims to drive the academy’s accomplishments further. He wants to enable young learners to develop and achieve essential skills. This is needed to be happy, confident and successful. They can then flourish in adult life as citizens.
Neil Miller is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of London South-East Academies Trust. He is proud of the pupils and young people who attend the academies. The staff teach guide and support them. This helps them develop knowledge, skills, emotional and social maturity. They can then make thoughtful decisions. They will become purposeful young adults.
The academy delivers a broad and balanced curriculum. This is provided by dedicated specialist teachers and support staff. They offer an educational experience that enriches the lives of young people. The focus on academic, social and emotional well being is important. It improves pupils’ life chances. It provides guidance and support. This allows them to follow appropriate pathways. They can go into further education or employment. They will become good, moral citizens.
Bromley Beacon Academy provides specialist education for 7 to 18 year olds. These pupils have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. The school helps pupils grow and flourish. Staff morale is exceptionally high. The school has two sites in Bromley and Orpington.
Executive Headteacher Neil Miller and his team are committed to equality. There is outstanding teamwork across both sites. This has been a key factor in the school’s rapid improvement. Children are kept safe and taught well. All groups of pupils make good progress. By the end of Key Stage 4 pupils achieve a good range of qualifications. These are academic and vocational.
