“A place of worship and community.” That’s how locals often describe Brockley Baptist Church. It stands on a site with a long history of faith, dating back to 1861. The original church, established in 1834, eventually paved the way for the Brockley Baptist Church we see today. The transition wasn’t immediate. It took place in 1867, with the formal dissolution of the old and the first meeting of the new on April 2nd, led by Rev. G.T. Wignor. This marked the start of a new chapter, a chapter that continues to unfold today. Rev. G.T. Wignor’s leadership proved to be a cornerstone for the church. He served Brockley Baptist Church for an impressive 25 years, guiding the congregation and shaping its identity in those formative years. The church stands as a testament to his dedication and the enduring strength of faith in the Brockley community.
