Once upon a time in the 1970s, this land was filled with small factories and terraced housing. Imagine the bustling sounds of industry replaced by laughter and the cheers of a football match. That’s the transformation Brimmington Park represents. Before the 1970’s a Regency-style terrace was built on Clifton Crescent in 1847-51.
Now, let’s take a closer look at how Brimmington Park came to be. The land south of Clifton Grove was once open. East of Clifton Grove stretched gardens and a pond towards the railway line. By 1895, this open space was built over. It wasn’t until the 1970s that Brimmington Park emerged.
Look around. See those AstroTurf pitches? They host mini-football games. This is where the original Peckham Town F.C. honed their skills. They were first known as Brimmington Park FC. The park was the location of their nightly kickabouts.
Notice the outdoor gym equipment. It was installed in 2013. This offers fitness opportunities for all. The park also features a large MUGA space.
Did you know that Brimmington Park is a Queen Elizabeth II Field? It has been since 2013. This legally protects it through Fields in Trust. It ensures that this space remains a haven for generations to come.
Currently, the sports centre is derelict. But there are plans for a new sports centre and 3G all-weather pitches. There is even a Toro interactive football facility proposed.
The Friends of Brimmington Park are crucial to its well-being. This group helps conserve and protect the park. They work for the benefit of wildlife and the community. The Friends were established in 1999.
