Perhaps you’re seeking respite from Aarhus’s urban clamor. Here in Brendstrup Skov, tranquility awaits. Brendstrup Skov is a natural haven located in Hasle. It is on the outskirts of Aarhus.

Brendstrup Skov is perfect for long walks. It is also ideal for running. Many paths wind through the forest. These paths offer a chance to explore different areas.

Brendstrup Skov also features a shelter area. This area has a bonfire pit. You can even spend the night here. A small section of Brendstrup Skov is a dog park. This area is not fenced.

Aarhus created Brendstrup Skov as part of a green initiative. This initiative aimed to encircle Aarhus with forests. The 83-hectare Brendstrup Skov mainly contains beech and oak. Bird cherry and pine trees act as shelter. The forest also features small ponds. These ponds are habitats for various amphibians.

Brendstrup Skov is near Vestereng. Vestereng was once part of Brendstrup. It was an enclosed field in Tilst parish. Ancher Jørgen Secher built Vester Enggård in the 1790s. Aarhus Municipality purchased this farm in 1939. The city then demolished farm buildings. This allowed the city garrison to use the area for drills.

Koldkær Bæk flows nearby. It runs from Vorrevang. It flows through Vestereng. The stream passes towards Brendstrup. A stream section was once named Brendstrup Grøft. This was due to pipe laying.

The stream now flows openly again. This happened due to the expansion of Aarhus University Hospital. The green project aimed to include nature. It became a stimulus for patients. It also addressed climate challenges. This involved managing rainwater via basins. These basins direct water to the stream. The project sought to restore biodiversity.

Today, Brendstrup Skov offers a peaceful escape. Its trails invite exploration. Its history connects to Aarhus’ green vision. Whether hiking or seeking quiet, Brendstrup Skov provides a natural retreat.
