Bremen High School

Opened in 1953, Bremen High School stands as a testament to the growth of Midlothian and the surrounding communities. Bremen High School was the first high school built within Bremen Community High School District 228. It was built to accommodate the burgeoning population of the southwest Chicago suburbs. The school’s name, Bremen High School, comes from Bremen Township, its location. Initially, students from the area attended various high schools further afield, like Thornton, Bloom, Blue Island, and Joliet Township High Schools. But with the post-war boom, the need for a local high school became clear. Can you imagine the excitement in November 1953 when Senator Everett Dirksen himself dedicated the newly built Bremen High School? The initial investment of $1,175,000 brought to life a school with 37 teachers and administrators ready to educate 732 students. Bremen High School proudly serves students from Midlothian, Posen, Markham, and a small part of Harvey. The school’s colors, red and grey, are prominent in the Braves’ uniforms. The Braves compete in the South Suburban Conference, a symbol of local pride. Bremen High School’s athletic programs are a cornerstone of the school. The Braves have a rich history, with the boys’ soccer team clinching Sectional Champions in the 2007-2008 season and the Poms team winning the State Championship in 2005-2006. From baseball and basketball to wrestling and volleyball, there’s a sport for every student at Bremen High School. Beyond athletics, Bremen High School pulsates with a vibrant array of clubs and activities. The student newspaper, the ECHO, keeps everyone informed. Aspiring yearbook editors chronicle the school year in the Arrow. Budding scientists explore their curiosity in the Science Club. Future business leaders hone their skills in the Oracle Vocational Club (BPA/DECA). From the Art Club to the World Language Club, Bremen High School fosters a diverse range of interests. Even alumni have made their mark. Gary Bettenhausen became a renowned auto racing driver. Ken Wahl graced our screens as a popular actor and TV star. Pete Lovrich even played Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Athletics. Bremen High School has fostered talent that has reached far beyond its walls. Bremen High School continues to nurture and educate the next generation, building on a rich history of community, achievement, and Brave spirit.
