Breakers Plunge is not for the faint of heart. It’s one of the star attractions at Soak City in Shakopee, Minnesota. Soak City is within the Valleyfair amusement park. It is owned by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Access to Soak City is included with your Valleyfair ticket.
Breakers Plunge is a pair of open-aired slides. Each slide is a staggering 90-foot freefall. At the bottom awaits a water-filled run-out. The slide operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Do you dare challenge a friend? You can race to the bottom. Before you climb those stairs, remember the rules. Guests must be 48 inches tall to ride Breakers Plunge. The maximum weight is 300 pounds per rider.
Safety is paramount. Riders must lie feet first. Arms must be crossed over the chest. Legs need to be crossed at the ankles. Your back must be flat against the slide.
Guests must have a minimum of four functioning extremities to ride. If you have a cervical collar or a broken collar bone, you cannot ride. Full arm or leg casts are also not permitted. Accessing Breakers Plunge requires climbing several flights of stairs. You must be able to enter the slide safely.
Leave loose articles behind. That includes piercings, necklaces, and rings. Eyewear must be secured with a strap. Remove shirts and aqua socks before riding. A non-rider can hold them for you.
Breakers Plunge opened in 2015. It quickly became a favorite among thrill-seekers. The slide was part of a major expansion of Soak City. This expansion also included Breakers Pipeline and Barefoot Beach.
Soak City itself has a rich history. The original water rides were called Liquid Lightning. Later, the area was renamed Whitewater Country Waterpark in 1992. In 2008, the name changed to Soak City.
Soak City occupies 7 acres. It features a wave pool, twelve water slides, and two raft rides. You can also enjoy a lazy river. Breakers Bay offers a 34,000-square-foot wave pool.
